Grit Diaries – October 14th

October 14 @ 7:30 pm - 11:00 pm

The Speakeasy

United States

Four times a year, some of the finest songwriters from North Carolina and beyond gather at The Speakeasy Theatre in Carrboro for an evening of stories, songs, laughter, heartbreak, bad decisions, redemption, and the occasional three-chord miracle.

Built around the legendary Nashville-style songwriter round, The Grit Diaries put 16 remarkable writers on stage in four rounds of four. No backing tracks. No smoke machines. No distractions. Just great songs, great stories, and the kind of musical honesty that can only happen when songwriters share the spotlight and trade songs in the round.

Every performance is different. One minute you’ll be laughing at a story that should probably never be told in public. The next, you’ll be sitting in stunned silence as a songwriter delivers a lyric so true it feels like it was written specifically for you.

Hosted in the intimate Speakeasy Theatre, The Grit Diaries has become one of the Triangle’s most beloved songwriter gatherings—a place where touring artists, local legends, first-timers, and award winners all share the same stage and the same microphone.

No two showcases are ever alike. New voices arrive every quarter. Old friends return with new songs. Magic happens. Sometimes by accident.

Sound check kicks off at 7:00 PM. The first song flies at 7:30 sharp.

Come discover your next favorite songwriter. Come hear the stories behind the songs. Come witness the beautiful, messy, glorious process of turning life into music.
